Peter's Philosophy:

"It is important for police officers to understand how the law affects their work, yet many legal classes consist of a boring recitation of case sites. My approach is to teach the principles of law that come from cases and tie those cases to real life situations with the use of videos, class discussion, interaction, and role playing. It may be interesting for a drug task force officer to watch a video of a buy-bust gone bad but when that video is dissected the officers come away with an understanding of what happens in a critical incident, how to reduce their exposure to litigation, avoid the pitfalls of profiling and illegal searches, and make an arrest and possibly an asset forfeiture that will stand up to court scrutiny. Whether talking about lethal force, taser liability, K9 officer training, or highway interdiction, racial profiling, or surveillance, I always endeavor to put the most up-to-date law on each subject in the context that street level cops understand and appreciate."
